Carbon Cleaning is your best option
Why does it get clogged up?
As part of the emissions system, some of the dirty exhaust gases are diverted back into the
intake manifold to aid in reducing combustion temperatures, this, in turn, reduces combustion
temperature
and therefore the poisonous NOx gas that we are all so concerned about breathing in. The downside to
this is that some of the carbon, resins, and oil vapor residues that are present in the exhaust gases
coat
the inside of the intake manifold forming ‘carbon build-up’. Over time this builds up to a point
that you’d be shocked the engine is actually able to breathe and run!
This leads to symptoms such as sticking intake swirl flaps, poor engine performance, engine management
warning lights and the limp-home-mode being activated (restricted
performance), lowered fuel economy and rough idling. We have a great wealth of knowledge and specialise
in
the diagnostics and cleaning of the intake manifold system and repair solutions for the swirl flaps.
This
includes live data analysis using dealer level diagnostics equipment that we include in all our intake
manifold and swirl flap cleaning services.
Firstly we’ll use our dealer level diagnostics equipment to assess the engine management error codes and complete live data analysis. Then assuming the vehicle is fit for cleaning we use our 1, 2, 3 or 4-stage engine carbon cleaning system that includes our world-leading Hydrogen carbon cleaning and our unique chemicals. This means in the majority of instances there is no requirement to remove the manifold for cleaning or replace it with a new part. On completion of the job, which takes approximately 45-60 minutes, we’ll reassess the engine management system and reset any fault codes.

Our world class Hydrogen generating machine pulses Hydrogen and Oxygen into the engine which upon contact with dry hardened carbon will burn it back into it's hydrocarbon state (a gas) so that it can exit safely through the exhaust system. Includes FREE dealer leval diagnostics scan.Recommended for: Those who use our Carbon Cleaning Services annually or every 10,000 to 12,000 miles.
Price: £119.99

This service is based on stage-1 Hydrogen cleaning but also utilises our unique chemicals for a more in-depth cleaning. It also dries out the moisture (mainly oily residues) which restricts the intake manifold and swirl flaps so that the Hydrogen cleaning can be more effective. This is then topped off with the inclusion of our proprietary injector cleaner to ensure a cleaner combustion thus slowing down the risk of further carbon build up causing repeat clogging.Recommended for: Vehicles that are suspected of or definitely have a clogged intake manifold causing symptoms such as Limp mode (restricted performance) or loss of power, excessive smoke or engine warning lights for the EGR.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS NOT GUARANTEED TO RESOLVE A FAULTY SWIRL FLAPS. CLEANING CANNOT MAGICALLY FIX SOMETHING THAT IS BROKEN, THEREFORE IF YOU REQUIRE A GFIX TO AN EGR FAULT PLEASE SEE THE FINAL OPTION BELOW

First we'll supply our unique 3-stage carbon cleaning process as above to ensure a clean engine and system. Then we reconfigure (remap) the vehicle's computer to permanently switch off the swirl flaps system whilst also programming it run more efficiently without the flaps. This solution, which is also known as Swirl Flap delete, is an alternative to the expensive replacement parts. For further details on this service please call us or speak to your technician upon their arrival.Recommended for: Vehicles that are suspected of or definitely have swirl flap failure.

The intake manifold is a set of tubes configured to deliver the air to the cylinders. In all engines, this air comes through a filtered air intake designed to keep the engine and components such as the manifold clean. However, with the need to make engines more efficient and reduce emissions manufacturers have introduced an EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system into the engine. The problem occurs due to the recirculation including oil, unspent fuel, and other deposits that as they enter the manifold then stick to the walls of the manifold tubes and begin to clog them up. The engine then receives reduced airflow, starts to become inefficient and doesn’t burn all the fuel. This leads to a loss of performance and increased emissions and pollution..
Problems that may occur from a dirty manifold include uneven and a noisy idle (usually the first sign of the issue), a tendency to stall, misfires and hesitation (especially when the engine is cold).
There are numerous ways to resolve a clogged intake manifold and with varying
prices.
The costliest option is to replace the component. Depending on the vehicle manufacturer and
engine
type expect this to be in the region of high £100’s, if not £1000’s.
The moderately expensive alternative is to manually clean them. Most mechanics will recommend
this –
Why?
Because they’ll earn well from the extensive hours it takes to complete the job. The price will
be
dependant
on how bad the clogging within the manifold, labour rates and engine type but expect it to be in
the
£100’s.
The most cost-efficient solution would be our engine carbon cleaning service.

Depending on the level of service chosen our engine carbon cleaning service takes a total of 45-60 minutes.
Carbon cleaning is not as such a fix, its original purpose is cleaning as a preventative measure as carbon build-up is the root cause of 85% of the failure of components. If your vehicle is suffering from swirl flap faults it can be mechanical, electrical or simply they are dirty. If it's the latter then cleaning can of course resolve this however if it's mechanical or electrical we would recommend a swirl flap remap solution and a carbon clean to remove the carbon from the manifold and the rest of the engine. It would then be advised to follow up with carbon cleans once every 12,000 miles as preventative maintenance.
You cannot clean too much but we recommend preventative cleaning once a year, or every 10-12,000 miles – just like a regular oil change but for the air and fuel side of your engine - little and often is the key and as the saying goes… ‘An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!
Certainly not. We are a worldwide brand with CE marked machines, operating in over 50 countries with 100’s of machines being used daily – never has there been an engine damaged from our engine carbon cleaning process.
We would not take any risks with your vehicle, so for piece of mind UKCC Auto Techs guarantee to you that all our technicians are trained to the highest standards and are independently fully insured.
